Several factors affect your garage door system. The age of the motor (opener) is probably the most common. Garage door motors are designed to last 10,000 cycles; that is to say your motor should work 10,000 times.

Ten-thousand cycles is approximately 10 years for the average home owner. If you use your garage door as your main entrance point that period of time could lessen as much as 2 years which would mean that you'll need a garage door opener 8-10 years after you purchase / install your new one. That being said, you'll not always need to replace it, there are parts that could also affect the efficiency of your motor. Perhaps you'll only need to replace the logic board or it could be something as simple as a blocked sensor. If you have home warranty services these issues could be covered and would be less expensive than purchasing and installing a new motor. Not necessarily a part of your motor, but certainly related, is your door spring(s). If your spring(s) is broken, you won't be able to open your door or if you can open it, it will feel as though it weighs 1000 lbs. Do not try to open it until you give us a call. We can walk you through what needs to happen next. Your safety is our biggest concern. The warm and cool weather fluctuations in Arizona certainly affect the life of your springs. There are ways to extend the life of your springs and motor which will, by default, increase the efficiency of your door: lubing your parts, checking for undue wear and tear, and doing a "mini" tune-up every 90 days. You don't need a technician for that. When our technician is on site for your intitial service call, ask about how you can avoid unnecessary costs by completing your "mini tune-up" on your own. If you're not sure if you need a technician to come out and look at your motor / opener, give us a call, if it is something that we can troubleshoot with you over the telephone, our technician will walk you through it for no charge.
